It’s me!
What could be a more retrograde thing than to publish a blog post that I wrote back in March in late August?
To be honest, the writing vibes have been low this summer for all the reasons. (Look, I’d love to use the word lazy but I was told today that that is a judgment word and not cool to use. Especially about oneself.) I initially held off on publishing this as I try not to wave my astrology flag too high on the Internet since it’s become so trendy, so misunderstood, so easy to make snap judgments about. But below I mapped out some key events that really show how astrology shows up in our lives. Look at these dates below and think about what happened to you at these points. Leave a comment!
There are two things to add to my last blurb on this year’s Saturn in Pisces transit: I actually have been writing, but I have been writing poems in a notebook. Those are definitely not up for public viewing yet. And I am on the brink of signing up for a nine-month Zoom-based art school. Why? I love words, as you know, but I feel like my words — and hopefully even fewer of them — could go even better with pictures! So I am learning more about making pictures.
Prose is lazy. Just kidding. Not really. Onward.

Now that everyone’s into astrology and Chani Nicolas was even in the Wall Street Journal, I thought I’d share some thoughts on Saturn! Haven’t you heard?! Saturn, he/him, is moving into Pisces, she/her. Today-ish.
The moon units of the internet — that includes me — have been abuzz. It’s a big deal for each and every one of us for our personal growth. I’m going to go straight to intermediate-level discussion so jump in or tap out!
First, does astrology even mean anything?
In my humble opinion, astrology is a beautiful tool for examining the patterns and alignments in your life. Let me offer a few Saturn transit examples from my own life and you can tell me.
First, Saturn is the teacher, the Big Daddy, the master, the Lord of Karma who serves up what you need to know or learn or face whether you like it or not. It’s part of your life’s fingerprint. I have come to love Saturn but as you can see from this timeline below, some of the lessons get served hard.
Saturn entered Virgo on Sept. 2, 2007, in my 9th house. For this recovering alcoholic, that weekend was my bottom. It was not a big, shouty one but the one that exemplified the humiliating, cumulative nature of advanced alcoholism; it was the kind that bring us to our personal understanding that we are powerless over alcohol in a totally banal way. On that Sunday morning, fresh off a late Saturday night in the East Village, I was puking into a plastic bag on Exit 13 of the New Jersey Turnpike. Once again, I was pouring out my “road beers” onto the shoulder of the freeway while promising to never drink again to my then-fiancé. I did drink again, disastrously. Six weeks later I was in my first AA meeting.
Saturn entered Scorpio on Oct. 5, 2012, in my 11th house. I got my yellow tri-paw lab named Wayne with two AA friends that weekend. Wayne brought me into the wonderful community of dogs and dog owners in Central Park (among many other lessons) and established the pattern that I would always live my life “with a dog.” I am a pack animal too it turns out.
Saturn entered Capricorn on Dec. 21, 2017, in my 1st house. It was in nearly direct aspect to my natal Saturn at 2 degrees Leo. My father died that night. Father dying on the opening night of Saturn in Cap in your first house of identity — I am going to give the Cosmos an A+ on Shakespearean drama for this one.
Saturn entered Aquarius on March 21, 2020, in my 2nd house. Pandemic aside, that was my first day of work as a remote worker, working for myself as a contractor and establishing a new way of living and earning income (which ultimately enabled me to move to Santa Fe.)
So today, Saturn enters into Pisces in my 3rd house. Well, I can assure you I am already wrestling with some major third-house publishing issues via my employer. And there are other changes happening in the background that are not yet ripe for the shelf as relationships shift, deepen, and move. But suffice to say, I sense this transit will be about becoming a new student again. Is it a coincidence that I recently took up a new creative craft with pottery? I think not. This transit broadly speaking is about structure and creativity. (Another fun fact that is more like a headline: Saturn is also creating a Grand Trine with my Sun-Uranus and Moon-Mars.) In short, if you’re not an astro nerd it basically means I am growing into my super-powers. Yay for Cat!
For my astro-kin, I’d love to hear your experiences in Saturn. As one astro-gal I like said, Saturn entering a new sign is like starting a new job. The first few weeks are a little rough as you learn where everything is again but then you settle in.
I love this Cat. You always inspire me with your knowledge of astrology. My sister x
I can't make a useful comment on saturn events as I know nothing about astrology, but when I meet a 'human type' Saturn, they give me the heabie jeebies.
